'Crash Landing on Love' and 'The World of the Married' Heated Up the Internet in the First Half of the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Among broadcast programs in the first half of this year, the most talked-about works online were the dramas 'Crash Landing on You' and 'The World of the Married,' and the variety show 'Mr. Trot,' according to a survey.
On the 28th, the Korea Communications Commission announced the results of the "2020 First Half Broadcast Content Internet Reaction Survey," which investigated internet responses to TV dramas and variety shows aired domestically in the first half of the year. Since 2018, the Commission has been conducting internet reaction surveys on broadcast content to present qualitative values such as viewer responses and preferences regarding the value of broadcast content, in addition to ratings. This survey includes indicators such as internet posts, comments, and video views.
The drama with the most internet reactions in the first half was tvN's 'Crash Landing on You,' followed by JTBC's 'The World of the Married' and 'Itaewon Class.' According to the Commission, 'Crash Landing on You' received many responses related to empathy for the character Ri Jeong-hyeok played by Hyun Bin, as well as interest in the lead actors and story development. 'The World of the Married' garnered reactions regarding expectations for the British drama remake, its shocking storyline, and the acting skills of the cast. 'Itaewon Class' attracted attention due to being based on a popular webtoon, as well as expectations for the lead actors and the original soundtrack (OST).
However, the ratings for these dramas were around 10%, which was lower compared to KBS's weekend and daily dramas that recorded ratings in the mid-20% range. Among variety shows, TV Chosun's 'Mr. Trot,' 'Taste of Mr. Trot,' and 'Sing Request - Love Call Center' received the most internet reactions in the first half. Among educational programs aired from April to June, EBS's 'Giant Peng TV' was the most talked about online.
