[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 28th that it held the 2nd Chungjang Festival Committee meeting with the attendance of 22 Chungjang Festival committee members.
At this meeting, six new festival committee members were appointed, and Kim Hyung-joo, former head of the Gwangju MBC News Department, was elected as the festival committee chairman.
The festival committee members agreed that it would be difficult to hold the traditional large-scale, densely attended festival this year due to COVID-19, and discussed new festival promotion plans such as ▲dispersing the event period and locations ▲exhibition-style festival ▲untact (contactless) festival ▲social distancing.
In particular, they reached a consensus to boost the morale of local cultural artists who are going through a more difficult time than ever due to COVID-19, to comfort citizens, and to hold a festival together with the citizens.
Festival Committee Chairman Kim Hyung-joo said, “The conditions for holding the festival are more difficult than any other year due to the new variable of COVID-19,” and added, “We will review a new type of festival different from before through diversification of festival methods amid the overall social changes brought by COVID-19.”
Dong-gu Mayor Im Taek said, “We are holding the Chungjang Festival in a new world we have never experienced before,” and stated, “We will open a new chapter of a model festival in the post-COVID-19 era by developing new content that allows visitors to enjoy the festival with peace of mind.”
