Imsil-gun "Drink Tap Water with Confidence"
Two Water Purification Plants and 19 Reservoirs Under Comprehensive Inspection Confirmed 'No Issues'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Recently, in relation to the 'tap water larvae' incident in some areas of the Seoul metropolitan area, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk conducted a comprehensive inspection of tap water and found that the tap water within the county is safe.
On the 27th, the county announced that to alleviate residents' concerns regarding the 'tap water larvae,' a thorough inspection of the water purification plants and reservoirs was conducted, confirming once again that there were no abnormalities in water quality.
The county carried out inspections of the Imsil Water Purification Plant and Gangjin Water Purification Plant, which are county facilities, in cooperation with Jeonbuk Province and the Korea Water Resources Corporation.
Additionally, the county formed its own inspection team and completed a comprehensive inspection of 19 reservoirs, pumping stations, and small-scale water supply facilities by the 24th.
As a result, no larvae were found in the water purification plants, and the water quality was confirmed to be normal.
The Imsil Water Purification Plant introduced an advanced membrane filtration system capable of removing contaminants larger than 0.01㎛ in July 2014, and the Gangjin Water Purification Plant operates a standard treatment process and has shortened the backwash cycle of the filter beds to once every 1 to 2 days.
Furthermore, to oxidize organic matter and eliminate bacteria in the water treatment process, the plant applies pre-chlorination and intermediate chlorination methods by injecting chlorine at two locations before the sedimentation basin and filter bed inflow.
The county is making every effort to manage water quality by conducting a comprehensive inspection of insect screens at reservoirs and pumping stations to block possible external contamination routes and has completed emergency measures.
County Governor Sim Min said, "The recent occurrence of larvae in tap water in some areas of the Seoul metropolitan area has likely caused great concern among residents," adding, "We will do our best to manage tap water so that residents can safely and confidently drink clean tap water."
