Kim Mikyung, Eunpyeong District Mayor, Joins Emergency Pest Control to Eradicate Giant Water Bugs
10th Pest Control Operation Completed So Far... Future Drone Pest Control Planned
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) has been continuously conducting pest control operations since July 9th immediately after the outbreak of giant millipedes around Bongsan Sunrise Park, and is currently carrying out the 10th round of chemical and physical pest control operations.
All available personnel, including those from the COVID-19 Overcoming Hope Job Project, were urgently mobilized.
In addition, to fundamentally block the spread route of the giant millipedes, on July 23rd, a joint pest control operation was conducted in collaboration with Deogyang-gu, Goyang City, and the Seoul National Forest Management Office.
About 100 people participated in the joint pest control site, including 70 people such as Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, 20 people including Lim Jong-cheol, Director of the Environment and Greenery Division of Deogyang-gu, Goyang City, and 10 people including Oh Hae-geun, Head of the Forest Disaster Safety Team at the Seoul National Forest Management Office, carrying out pest control work.
An official from Eunpyeong-gu stated, “We will continue pest control operations and do our best to ensure that local residents do not experience inconvenience in using the park. If the infestation density does not decrease, we also plan to consider drone pest control methods.”
The district expects that drone pest control, unlike aerial pest control, sprays chemicals selectively and diagonally, which will have a significant effect on pest control efficiency and securing the health of the forest ecosystem.
