According to local political circles on the 24th, the day before, Representative Shin Jeong-hoon expressed his intention to yield the position of chairman of the Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee to Representative Kim Seung-nam.
Accordingly, Representative Kim Seung-nam is scheduled to register as the sole candidate for the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee chairman within the day.
The two representatives, both from the ‘86 activist generation’ and maintaining a close relationship, had competed for the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee chairman position.
Earlier, on the 8th, the two representatives met at an undisclosed location and exchanged in-depth opinions regarding the party chairman position.
Supporters who had pinned their hopes on Representative Shin said in unison, “In the end, Representative Shin made a ‘Solomon’s decision,’” and “We hope the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee will unite through the tradition of ‘yielding and consideration.’”
Representative Shin said, “Since consensus appointments are also happening in other regions and many representatives prefer not to have a primary election, I decided to yield to Representative Kim.”
He added, “I yielded unconditionally with the thought of resolving Jeonnam politics together without any discord.”
The Democratic Party’s Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee chairman will be elected at the Jeonnam Provincial Party Executive Committee meeting on the 8th of next month.
