"Responding to COVID-19 with AI"…Joint Research by Industry-Academia-Government-Military Experts
Professor Choi Byung-wook, Department of Radiology, Yonsei University College of Medicine, appointed as the founding preparation committee chairman of the medical artificial intelligence consortium for COVID-19 infection response launching this September
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Experts from the medical field, industry, and academia have come together to conduct joint research using artificial intelligence (AI) to respond to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The "Medical Artificial Intelligence Consortium for COVID-19 Infection Response," launching on September 1, will include about 20 experts from industry, academia, and research institutes such as Yonsei University College of Medicine, Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Naver. The consortium plans to jointly research, develop, and verify AI technologies and their applications, as well as collect and share necessary data.
From Yonsei University College of Medicine, Professors Park Yu-rang (Biomedical Systems Informatics), Kim Hwi-young (Radiological Science Research Institute), Shim Kyu-won (Neurosurgery), Yeom Jun-seop (Infectious Diseases), Choi Byung-wook (Radiology), and Heo Jin (Radiology) are participating. From the university group, Professors Kwon In-ho (Dong-A University), Kim Nam-guk (Ulsan University), Kim Yun-hyun (Chonnam National University), Kim Jin-young (Keimyung University), Park Sang-jun (Seoul National University), Shin Soo-yong (Sungkyunkwan University), Jung Myung-jin (Sungkyunkwan University), Jin Kwang-nam (Seoul National University), and Hong Helen (Seoul Women’s University) are involved.
From the industry sector, Kim Ki-hwan (Lunit), Lee Dong-hoon (Kakao), Jung Kyu-hwan (Vuno), Choi Woo-sik (Deepnoid), Choi Jeong-pil (Coreline Soft), and Ha Jung-woo (Naver) will participate. Additionally, Professors Jeon Jong-hong (Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Kim Kyung-hoon (Korea Information Society Development Institute), and Ye Jong-cheol (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) are included. On the 8th, a preparatory committee meeting was held, with Professor Choi Byung-wook serving as the chair.
The consortium plans to collaborate with similar consortia in North America and Europe. It also aims to develop core AI standards for COVID-19 response, according to the consortium. An online workshop will be held on the 24th to share trends and research and development cases related to medical AI for COVID-19 infection response.
