Gangnam-gu's 'Garosugil' Street Signs Completely Replaced with Legal Road Standards
62% of Address Users Agree to Replace ‘Dosan-daero 13-gil? Apgujeong-ro 12-gil’ ... Sky Road Installation Also Under Review
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has changed the legal road names previously known as ‘Dosan-daero 13-gil’ and ‘Apgujeong-ro 12-gil’ to ‘Garosugil,’ and replaced all facilities such as road signs and building number plates this month.
The district had designated ‘Garosugil,’ which was commonly used as the name for the area, as an honorary road name by its own authority in 2008. However, since the legal road names were different, they collected written consent from 62% of address users and have been gathering opinions on the change plan since January.
Garosugil is a two-lane street lined with about 160 ginkgo trees, cafes, popular restaurants, and clothing stores. Over the past three years, it has attracted more than 1.1 million tourists.

Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “We are considering installing the ‘Sky Road’ (an aerial walkway) to create a distinctive street environment and revitalize the commercial district in the Garosugil area.” He added, “Starting with this road name change, we will strive to make it a hotspot that brings pleasant changes and attracts many visitors.”
