Assemblyman Lee Byung-hoon Introduces 5 Key Bills on 'Livelihood and Safety'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Representative Lee Byung-hoon (The Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Dongnam-eul) has introduced five bills related to public welfare and safety as the main sponsor.
The bills proposed by Representative Lee include ▲the "Partial Amendment to the Food Sanitation Act" to manage exposure levels of harmful substances for sensitive groups such as pregnant women and infants, ▲the "Partial Amendment to the Food Sanitation Act" introducing punitive damages for the sale of hazardous foods and the manufacture and sale of toxic devices directly related to public safety, and ▲the "Amendment to the Labor Standards Act" allowing punitive damages claims against employers in cases of unfair dismissal.
Additionally, there are ▲the "Amendment to the Act on the Promotion of Mental Health and Support for Welfare Services for Mental Patients," which enables the state to bear emergency hospitalization costs for mental illness patients as in administrative hospitalization, allowing early treatment and management of mental illness symptoms, and ▲the "Amendment to the Sewerage Act," which establishes heavy metal discharge standards for effluent quality from public sewage treatment facilities to promote public safety.
Representative Lee stated, "Through these diverse public welfare improvement bills aimed at improving livelihoods and stabilizing daily life, I expect that the Republic of Korea can become a safer and more just society," adding, "I will pay more attention to steady legislation on public welfare and safety that can improve citizens' lives and safety, which are often neglected due to little political gain or loss."

Meanwhile, along with the public welfare improvement bills, Representative Lee also introduced the "Act on Support for Persons Eligible for Veterans' Benefits," which excludes those involved in the suppression of the May 18 Democratic Movement from veterans' benefits.
