Greenbelt Deregulation, 'Unnecessary' 60% vs 'Necessary' 27%
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Six out of ten people do not agree with the necessity of lifting the Greenbelt development restriction zones to stabilize housing prices.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on the 17th at the request of YTN's 'The News,' 60.4% of respondents answered that it is unnecessary due to the risk of green space reduction and speculation promotion, the agency announced on the 20th. On the other hand, 26.5% said it is necessary for housing supply, and 13.1% responded that they were unsure.
In Seoul, where Greenbelt areas are concentrated, 61.8% responded that it is unnecessary, nearly twice the 31.7% who said it is necessary. Respondents from the Gyeonggi and Incheon regions also showed a similar trend, with 62.6% saying it is unnecessary.
In the 'Gwangju-Jeolla' region, 34.1% said it is necessary, and 40.9% said it is unnecessary, showing similar proportions, while 31.4% answered 'unsure,' which was relatively higher than other regions.
By age group, 40s and 30s showed 72.9% and 69.7% respectively responding that it is unnecessary, about 10 percentage points higher than the overall result. Among seniors aged 70 and above, 31.0% said it is necessary, and 37.6% said it is unnecessary, showing a close margin.
By political party support, 64.1% of supporters of the United Future Party said it is unnecessary, and 55.3% of Democratic Party supporters also responded that it is unnecessary. Among the non-affiliated, 63.5% said it is unnecessary.
By ideological inclination, the proportion of respondents who said 'lifting the Greenbelt is unnecessary' showed little difference between conservatives (58.6%) and progressives (55.3%). However, among centrists, 67.9% said it is unnecessary, relatively higher than both ideological groups.

This survey contacted 24,836 adults aged 18 and over nationwide, with a final 1,000 respondents completing the survey, recording a 4.0% response rate. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
