Ssangyong's First Electric 'E100' Teaser Image Released... Featuring Shark Fin and Scale Design
The Nation's First Subcompact SUV Electric Vehicle
Scheduled for Release in the First Half of 2021
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Ssangyong Motor has unveiled the teaser image of its first electric vehicle, the 'E100'. The E100 is the first compact mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) to be launched in the domestic electric vehicle market.
On the 20th, Ssangyong Motor released a teaser image graphically depicting the exterior design of the E100. A Ssangyong Motor official stated, "It is Korea's first compact mid-size SUV electric vehicle equipped with a living space and versatility suitable as a full-fledged family car," adding, "We have made a new approach to the body design to maximize efficiency and have also devoted great effort to the application of materials."
The overall design of the E100 is based on bold volume with streamlined lines reflecting aerodynamics. For the first time in Ssangyong Motor's history, an aluminum hood (engine compartment cover) was applied to achieve weight reduction and optimize the center of gravity, and an enclosed radiator grille was used to maximize energy efficiency.
Additionally, a biomimetic engineering approach was attempted by adopting environmentally adaptive cases verified in nature, such as using a shark fin and scale shapes to minimize fluid resistance. These dynamic style elements enhance the design completeness.
