Gyeonggi-do Deploys 'Inspection Team' to Crack Down on Illegal Activities in Rivers and Valleys
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will operate inspection teams until the 30th of next month to crack down on illegal activities in 13 major river valleys within the province.
The inspection targets include 13 locations across 9 cities and counties: Baegun Valley in Pocheon, Jangheung Valley in Yangju, Jojongcheon, Gapyeongcheon, and Eobi Valley in Gapyeong, Sudong Valley and Myojeoksa Valley in Namyangju, Dongmak Valley in Yeoncheon, Tapdong Valley in Dongducheon, Yongmun Valley and Sanasa Valley in Yangpyeong, Namhansanseong Valley in Gwangju, and Gokiri Valley in Yongin.
These valleys are popular summer vacation spots and were selected through prior demand surveys conducted by the cities and counties. The inspection teams are composed of officials responsible for river and valley maintenance from the province and cities/counties, as well as river valley guardians.
The inspections are divided into 'on-foot inspection teams' that walk short sections of 2 to 5 km to closely examine areas densely packed with business facilities, and 'vehicle inspection teams' that use vehicles to cover longer sections where business facilities are more dispersed.
When illegal business activities are discovered, the inspection teams notify the relevant city or county to take measures such as demolition in accordance with related laws. Additionally, any areas requiring improvement will be thoroughly recorded on inspection sheets to strengthen management and supervision for immediate action.
Furthermore, the teams will check for illegal dumping and neglect of garbage, the installation and operation status of garbage collection points, and will promptly handle any illegally dumped waste. Promotional materials will also be distributed to visitors.
