The 4th Samsung Security Technology Forum Held 'Online' Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that it will hold the '4th Samsung Security Technology Forum (SSTF)' online on the 18th of next month.
Since 2017, Samsung Electronics has held the Samsung Security Technology Forum annually to expand the software base and nurture talent in the fields of information security and privacy-related security technologies. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held online.
The Samsung Security Technology Forum is the largest security forum in Korea, where global security experts, academia, industry stakeholders, and students participate to share the latest achievements in the field of security technology. Anyone interested in security can participate.
This forum, emphasizing the importance of security once again, will be held under the theme "Time to Rethink Privacy," featuring keynote speeches by experts and technical sessions sharing major research activities and insights in the security field from Samsung Research. The 'Hacker's Playground,' an online hacking experience zone open to everyone from beginners to experts, will also be operated online.
The forum will begin with a welcome speech by Seung Hyun-joon, President of Samsung Research, followed by keynote speeches from Hwang Yong-ho, Executive Director and Head of the Security Team at Samsung Research, and Ahn Gil-jun, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of the Security Team at the Wireless Business Division.
Following them, technical lectures are scheduled from Professor Elisa Bertino, a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Purdue University and Research Director of the Cyberspace Security Lab; Professor Nicholas Feamster, a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto and Chair of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) at the Vector Institute; and Professor Youngjin Jang of Oregon State University’s Department of Computer Engineering, winner of the world’s most prestigious international hacking competition, Defcon.
In the Hacker's Playground, problems of various levels from beginner to advanced will be provided to test individual hacking skills. Unlike last year, this year’s event being online opens more opportunities for participation than the on-site event.
President Seung said, "With the recent advancement of IT technology, security and personal privacy protection have become even more important. Samsung Electronics will strive to broaden social interest and participation in the security field through regular technology exchanges such as the Security Technology Forum, enabling customers to use Samsung Electronics’ products and services with greater trust and safety."
