Increase in Home Appliance Sales After COVID-19... Healthcare Product Sales Double
Rising Interest in Healthy Indoor Activities Drives Healthcare Appliances Boom
From Medical Devices to Targeted Massagers, Healthcare Stores Increase by Over 30 in 3 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), interest in health management has increased, leading to a rise in sales of healthcare products.
Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 20th that an analysis of sales for the first half of this year showed that overall home appliance sales increased by 14.3% compared to the same period last year. Among them, healthcare-related home appliances recorded sales more than double that of last year. Healthcare home appliances include massage chairs, medical appliances, scalp massagers, and exercise equipment. The department store explained, "As outings sharply decreased and indoor life increased, interest in healthy home living also grew. Until last year, home appliance sales were dominated by items related to fine dust and yellow dust such as air purifiers and clothes dryers, but this year healthcare home appliances have taken center stage."
The expansion of stores for healthcare-related brands also proves their popularity. Until 2 to 3 years ago, healthcare home appliance stores were limited to one or two massage chair brands, but now there are more than 30 stores across about 10 brands, including massage chairs, spinal medical devices, scalp massagers, and premium exercise equipment.
Shinsegae Department Store plans to capture demand by operating various healthcare brand pop-up stores regardless of the season, anticipating a sharp increase in demand for healthcare products. They have prepared a variety of products for customers who want to spend healing time at home during the vacation season.
First, Ceragem, a specialized brand for spinal medical appliances, is currently operating pop-up stores at Centum City, Hanam, and Gimhae locations, and plans to open additional pop-up stores in August at Daegu, Gwangju, Uijeongbu, and Masan locations. Ceragem is running a trade-in promotion for the Ceragem Master V4 until August 31, where customers can receive a discount by returning old massage chairs regardless of brand.
