LGU+ Completes Preparation for 5G Standalone (SA) Commercialization
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus announced on the 20th that it has developed a network slicing function usable in the wired network segment, following mobile communication base stations and core equipment, to commercialize 5G Standalone (SA) mode.
In the 5G Standalone (SA) environment, network slicing technology can be provided to enterprise service subscribers for differentiated service quality and low-latency services. To provide network slicing, technology that measures the 5G network in real-time in the wired network segment, in addition to base stations and core equipment, is required. This enables the construction of an End-to-End standalone commercial network across the entire segment from the device to the network.

The technology applied this time is a solution that analyzes the Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (TWAMP) through a Software Defined Network (SDN) controller and manages transmission quality. Previously, only limited quality status could be checked using a separate external quality measurement server. The newly developed solution measures the quality of the transmission segment directly from each device, and the SDN controller finely manages the transmission quality, allowing the automatic selection of the optimal transmission path according to the network status. This technology was developed in cooperation with domestic and international equipment manufacturers that have built 5G transmission networks. Park Song-cheol, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus NW Technology Operation Group, said, “With this solution, we have secured technology that enables the provision of more stable 5G services,” and added, “We plan to continuously strive to provide high-quality services to meet the elevated expectations of customers in the future.”
