Realized Moon Administration's 'Tax Resistance'... United Party Continues Criticizing Real Estate Daily
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Moon Jae-in administration's real estate measures are facing widespread tax resistance, dragging down approval ratings as well. The United Future Party has been fiercely criticizing the government's real estate policies daily, demanding the dismissal of Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mi and a change in policy direction.
On the 18th, Bae Jun-young, spokesperson for the United Future Party, stated in a commentary, "The public is concerned that only the president does not know why the government's real estate policy is going in circles."
He pointed out, "Only eight months ago, the president confidently assured the public in a dialogue that 'we are confident in our government's real estate policy,' but Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung questioned, 'Bureaucrats have vested interests, and they have many connections with people who own a lot of real estate. Do you think the president's good intentions will be realized?'"
Referring to the remark by Jin Sung-jun, a Democratic Party lawmaker and former Blue House Political Planning Secretary, that "house prices will not fall," he criticized, "This was said behind the scenes after a 100-minute play. Is this not a serious statement but a joke?"
Spokesperson Bae emphasized, "President Roh Moo-hyun admitted that 'the biggest policy mistake of our government was real estate' and showed the courage to apologize to the public. The government should now coolly admit the failure of its real estate policy and declare a full-scale reform."
Criticism of the real estate policy by United Future Party lawmakers continued. Song Seok-jun, chairman of the United Future Party's Special Committee for Normalizing the Real Estate Market, appeared on MBC's 'News Outside' on the 17th and referred to Jin's remarks as "a blatant exposure of the loopholes in the July 10 measures."
Yoon Hee-sook, a member of the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee and chair of the Economic Innovation Committee, said, "The Moon Jae-in administration is repeating the failures of the Participatory Government, which caused historic real estate price surges by repeatedly invoking ultra-strong demand suppression measures. Instead of creating more bubbles in the already liquidity-overflowing real estate market with Greenbelt compensation, it is time to lift regulations on reconstruction and redevelopment, the only way to supply housing in urban areas."
On the 17th, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the United Future Party, told reporters, "Even after using all policies, they cannot control housing prices. The direction must change." He added, "We first urge Minister Kim to resign; if that does not happen, we hope the president, who has the appointment authority, will dismiss her; if that still does not work, we will consider exercising a motion for dismissal."
