Changwon National University Selected as Support Target for Regional Innovation Platform Project
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon National University in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it has been selected as a support target for the ‘Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project.’
According to Changwon National University, the Ministry of Education announced the selection results of the ‘Local Government-University Cooperation-Based Regional Innovation Project’ and finally selected Gyeongnam Province as the regional innovation platform.
In this contest, 14 non-metropolitan cities and provinces and 10 platforms nationwide participated, with single-type platforms selected in Gyeongnam and Chungbuk, and multiple-type platforms selected in three regions including Gwangju and Jeonnam.
This project is one of the government’s core cross-ministerial policies for regional innovation and national balanced development, supporting local universities to form cooperative relationships with their regions to nurture talent and increase youth settlement in the area.
Gyeongnam formed a platform consisting of 17 universities including Changwon National University and 49 regional innovation institutions, selecting three core fields: ‘Smart Manufacturing Engineering,’ ‘Smart Manufacturing ICT,’ and ‘Smart Community.’ As a single-type platform, Gyeongnam will carry out the project with 29.8 billion KRW in national funds and 12.8 billion KRW in local funds.
In particular, Changwon National University plans to lead regional innovation by fulfilling its role as the central university in the ‘Smart Manufacturing Engineering’ field and maximizing collaborative efforts among the university, local governments, and industries.

Lee Ho-young, President of Changwon National University, emphasized, “Through the selection of this project, we will strengthen cooperation between the university and local governments to establish and develop various regional innovation models, and Changwon National University will do its best to serve as the center of regional innovation so that Gyeongnam’s three core fields can achieve sustainable growth.”
