Haenam-gun, Duryunsan Area Trail Garden 'Created'
Final Report Meeting on Basic Plan for Creating Trail Gardens in Duryunsan Area
Restoration of Old Entrance Road to Daeheungsa Temple, Outline of Theme 'Trail Garden' Creation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 16th that the final report meeting for the basic plan service was held on the 14th as it is promoting the creation of the nation's first themed path garden in the Duryunsan Daheungsa area.
At the report meeting attended by experts in related fields, resident representatives, Daheungsa officials, and related public officials, the results of the basic plan service for the creation of the Duryunsan area path garden were presented, along with an analysis of the conditions for developing a millennium-old temple themed tourism route linked to the Jeollanam-do premium tourism belt construction project.
According to the basic plan, the creation of the Duryunsan area path garden is based on the direction of "meditation, healing, and restoration of old paths," restoring the mountain temple path of the millennium-old Daheungsa, and creating spaces for meditation and healing such as path gardens, stream gardens, forest path gardens, and harmony gardens.
First, the currently asphalt-paved 2.1 km section of the Daheungsa forest path will be restored as a pedestrian-only mountain temple path (old dirt road), and a path garden will be created so that visitors can freely enjoy gardens planted with various tree species while walking.
The stream garden will be created as a "path of emptiness" to empty the weary mind of daily life while walking along the stream path of the Daheungsa valley. The space consists of a waterside resting area, a walking trail, a wish pond, and a promise bridge.
The forest path garden, created as a resting path, will be a healing space breathing with nature in a cedar forest full of phytoncides, and the harmony garden will be used as a space for temple experiences, tourism events, or activities.
The Daheungsa area path garden creation project is a campaign pledge project of Haenam-gun's 7th elected administration, aiming to develop distinctive tourism resources by creating a "themed garden with rest and fun (Hue-Fun Valley)" linked to local resources and to revitalize the local economy. It is scheduled to be completed in 2023, with a total project cost of 12 billion KRW.
Duryunsan Daheungsa is the head temple of the 22nd district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and a historic millennium-old temple designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is Haenam's representative cultural tourism attraction, densely packed with historical sites such as National Treasure No. 308 Buk Mireukam Rock-Seated Buddha, Cheonnyeon-su, Iljiam, Nam Mireukam, as well as Duryunsan Cable Car, Duryun Maze Park, and a well-being food village.
In particular, the Ten-ri Forest Path leading up to Daheungsa boasts a tunnel of various subtropical forests and is renowned for its outstanding scenery where valleys and water harmonize, known as Gugokguyu.
