Coast Guard Headquarters Installs Fine Dust Measurement Equipment on 35 Large Vessels
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Korea Coast Guard announced on the 15th that it has installed fine dust measurement equipment on 35 large vessels to detect fine dust early in the open sea.
Until now, fine dust measurement equipment had been installed only within domestic territory and affiliated islands, making it difficult to accurately measure concentrations before reaching the Korean Peninsula.
With the installation of measurement devices on these large vessels, fine dust information can be collected from the open sea, enabling early warning issuance and preemptive response before it reaches the Korean Peninsula.
The measurement equipment was installed after safety verification by the Korean Register (KR), and fine dust concentration data will be provided in real-time to related agencies such as the Ministry of Environment.
The provided data will serve as objective measurement information to confirm the inflow of foreign fine dust and its concentration. The Ministry of Environment plans to use this to accurately track the movement of foreign fine dust, secure scientific evidence for international cooperation in the atmospheric field, and utilize it for fine dust forecasting and atmospheric environment policy formulation.
