Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Launches 'Digital Outdoor Advertising Pilot Project' in Full Swing
Expecting Vibrancy in Cheomdan District Commercial Area
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) is set to officially launch the "Big Data-Based Digital Outdoor Advertising Pilot Project," which was selected through a competition by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 15th, this pilot project aims to revitalize local alley markets by collecting and analyzing big data such as pedestrian flow and weather around digital outdoor advertisements, providing real-time information to small business owners in commercial districts, and promoting their stores.
The district plans to install eight digital outdoor advertising units around Cheomdan Jungang-ro to introduce local shops, provide commercial district usage video content, broadcast advertisements for small business owners, and offer local public information.
Before the full-scale project launch, Gwangsan-gu decided the installation locations of these advertisements through on-site consulting by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety advisory group and big data analysis of pedestrian flow.
Subsequently, a project promotion meeting was held with participation from local residents, merchant association members, and experts to share information on big data collection and analysis, as well as advertisement display and operation methods.
Additionally, Gwangju City has been requested to designate the area as a special zone for relaxed restrictions on outdoor advertising displays. Gwangsan-gu plans to complete the installation of digital outdoor advertisements within this year and begin pilot operation from next year.
A Gwangsan-gu official stated, "This project will revitalize the Cheomdan area’s commercial district, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19, and contribute to the business stability and competitiveness of small business owners."
