Yeonggwang-gun Ranks First for Four Consecutive Years in Rice Crop Disaster Insurance Enrollment Rate
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) recently announced on the 15th that during the sales period for rice crop disaster insurance, 9,019 hectares out of 9,242 hectares of rice cultivation area were insured, achieving a 98% subscription rate, ranking first in the province.
This rate is 24% higher than the provincial average subscription rate of 74%, marking the first place in the province for four consecutive years since 2017.
The county has been actively responding to unexpected natural disasters to promote farm income and management stability, supporting an additional 10% of county funds and subsidizing 90% of crop insurance premiums since 2016 as part of the 6th local government governor's campaign promises.
Previously, during last year's autumn harvest season, disaster insurance payments totaling 11.2 billion KRW were made to 2,614 farms due to various crop disaster damages caused by typhoons (Tapa, Lingling, Mitag).
