Beauty Interview with Models Jeong Haneul, Jang Hyerin, and Jo Sooyoung
[Culture & Life Section Reporter Heeyoung Kim] As the summer vacation season approaches, more people are preparing to go on a hotel staycation or head to the beach. Since it is the season for exposure, many expect to show off beautiful bikini and rash guard fits at pools and beaches, but due to COVID-19, it has been difficult to even manage by using gyms and facilities, making it hard to carry out plans.
For models, body management is an essential factor. Each model maintains a beautiful figure based on their own healthy diet, and they must have unique beauty habits. Also, there must be new home care tips they have learned due to COVID-19.
How about preparing for this vacation by adopting models’ daily body care methods? We conducted a beauty interview with female models from Avon Model Agency about their summer body care know-how.
Model Jeong Haneul
“Instead of foods high in salt, make sure to eat tomatoes, milk, and drink plenty of water!”
Q. Do you have any beauty habits you usually follow?
I have sensitive skin that is dry and sometimes breaks out with big acne, so I focus on moisturizing and managing so that acne marks don’t remain. First, whether my makeup is heavy or light, I thoroughly cleanse until no product residue remains. Then, depending on my skin condition that day, I use different products. I’ve noticed that applying products along the skin texture helps acne heal better and leaves fewer marks.
Q. Is there any part of your body you want to improve?
People have told me I look a bit thin, so I’m doing appropriate strength training to broaden my shoulder line a bit.
Q. What foods do you make sure to eat for body care?
There are three foods I always make sure to eat. First, tomatoes are good for fatigue recovery, so I often eat them during busy schedule seasons. Milk neutralizes salt in the body and is good for bone health, so I drink it often. Especially, I try to drink plenty of water. I definitely feel a clear difference in my condition between days I drink a lot of water and days I don’t. Since I have dry skin, I drink more water than usual during hot summer days like these.
Q. What is your personal method when you need to diet?
I think the best diet method is sweating through about 30 minutes of moderate cardio, abdominal muscle exercises, and shoulder workouts. I frequently consume water and fruits and try to avoid salty foods as much as possible. Also, I’ve personally felt that not drinking alcohol improves diet efficiency and skin condition!
Q. Do you have any home care tips you’ve learned while staying at home due to COVID-19?
I was quite upset for a while because I couldn’t go to the gym and couldn’t exercise as much as before. But as a model, I can’t neglect management! So I do planks, basic Pilates moves, and sit-ups at home. It’s boring to just do them, so I play my favorite songs and hold the poses or repeat exercises until the song ends. When the song finishes, I feel very proud and happy, so this has become my frequent workout method.
Q. What body care items do you recommend as a model?
My father always emphasizes blood circulation for health. When I do fashion shows from early morning to evening, with multiple rehearsals and wearing tight clothes and heels, my face and legs often swell. So when I’m very swollen or have a schedule the next day, I always take a hot half-body bath to relieve fatigue. For facial skin, I recommend La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm, which I use often. On days when my skin is very irritated, I apply a generous amount on bare skin before bed, and it calms my skin a lot by the next day. It has become my favorite item!
Model Jang Hyerin
“Eat deliciously with a diet meal without starving! Exercise is a must!”
Q. Do you have any beauty habits you usually follow?
After washing up at night, I always do a facial massage before sleeping. I use a massage device during the skin lotion step, and before bed, I wear a lifting band for about 15 to 20 minutes. On days when I walk a lot or wear heels for a long time, I always loosen my legs before sleeping. Especially, I sleep with a high pillow under my legs. It definitely improves blood circulation and reduces leg cramps!
Q. Is there any part of your body you want to improve?
My posture is usually not good, so I have some asymmetry in my face and body. That’s why I consistently use a lifting band and do facial massages.
Q. What foods do you make sure to eat for body care?
I don’t have specific foods I always eat for body care. If I had to pick one, I try to drink water frequently. I always carry water with me when I go out!
Q. What is your personal method when you need to diet?
Starving diets are hard to maintain because they’re tough. So I try to make diet meals as delicious as possible. I also try not to eat after 7 p.m. I exercise daily, mainly Pilates or gym workouts, and even on days I don’t, I do fasted cardio in the morning.
Q. Do you have any home care tips you’ve learned while staying at home due to COVID-19?
Since I stay home, my activity level has decreased, so I seem to gain weight faster. So when I have to go out, I try to walk as much as possible.
Q. What body care items do you recommend as a model?
My personal recommended items are the lifting device Kasahop and the Yaksonmyeongga lifting band. Kasahop is great because it massages and loosens the face and neck during the skin lotion step, so I use it consistently. The Yaksonmyeongga lifting band is also one I use daily. It helps correct asymmetry and the bumps on the band press on facial acupoints, which feels good.
Model Jo Sooyoung
“To boost immunity, I eat seasonal vegetables and fruits raw!”
Q. Do you have any beauty habits you usually follow?
Rather than only seeking cold drinks in hot weather, I drink warm tea every day. Also, when my sensitive skin needs rest, I wash my face with water frequently.
Q. Is there any part of your body you want to improve?
I believe that to create a beautiful body line, a balanced body without sagging is essential. So I pay attention to overall body balance and elasticity. I have somewhat weak upper body muscles, so I work hard to improve that area.
Q. What foods do you make sure to eat for body care?
I tend to keep my body light. So every morning, I make sure to eat tomatoes and barley sprout powder, which are rich in vitamins and dietary fiber.
Q. What is your personal method when you need to diet?
I maintain a regular lifestyle with hiking or morning exercise. I also try to keep meal times exact to reduce unnecessary intake. I fast after 6 p.m. and eat a hearty breakfast.
Q. Do you have any home care tips you’ve learned while staying at home due to COVID-19?
I usually eat convenient packaged foods, but to boost health and immunity against COVID-19, I eat nutrient-rich seasonal vegetables and fruits raw. For vegetables I can’t usually eat, I consume freeze-dried powder mixed with milk!

Q. What body care items do you recommend as a model?
I take probiotics because they are effective for reducing body fat and managing gut health. The product I take is Bienalsin Probiotics. For exercise equipment, I ride a stationary bike. I recommend it because you can easily do cardio while watching TV or using your phone in daily life.
