Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member Donghyun Lee: "Gyeongjeon Line Electrification Project Must Include Beolgyo Station Stop"
Embracing Railway-Excluded Areas with Beolgyo Station Stop, Must Become Eastern Region's Transportation Hub
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Lee Donghyun, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly, announced on the 14th that during the 2020 Construction and Transportation Bureau's work report on the 13th, he requested that Beolgyo Station be included as a stop in the electrification projects of the Gyeongjeon Line connecting Gwangju and Busan, and the Namhae Coast electrification project connecting Mokpo Imseong and Boseong.
Assemblyman Lee Donghyun stated during his inquiry, "I understand that the Namhae Coast electrification project and the Gyeongjeon Line electrification project have passed the preliminary feasibility study, and electrification construction is currently underway on the Gwangju Songjeong?Boseong?Suncheon section and the Mokpo Imseong?Boseong section."
He continued, "Nearly 100,000 residents, including those from Goheung, Beolgyo District 2, and parts of Suncheon, are experiencing inconvenience in transportation. To embrace these railway underserved areas and improve their inconvenience, and for Boseong to become the transportation hub of eastern Jeonnam, it is reasonable to have trains stop at Beolgyo Station."
In response, Jeonnam Province Construction and Transportation Bureau Director Jeon Dongho said, "When operating routes divided into express and local trains, there may be routes that do not stop and run express, but in the case of the Namhae Coast Railway and Gyeongjeon Line electrification projects, the basic plan includes stopping at Beolgyo Station," adding, "We will continue to consult with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure that this basic plan is implemented without any setbacks."
Currently, the Gyeongjeon Line electrification project (Gwangju Songjeong?Boseong?Suncheon), with an investment of 1.7 trillion won, and the Namhae Coast Railway electrification project (Mokpo Imseong?Boseong), worth 1.5 trillion won, are being promoted in Boseong County.
