Seeking Understanding of Enhanced Church Quarantine Measures and Promising Active Communication
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun held a luncheon meeting with leaders of the Korea Christian Federation (HanGyoChong) and the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) at the Prime Minister's official residence in Seoul on the 14th, the Prime Minister's Office announced.
The meeting was arranged to explain the government's quarantine policies, including the recently implemented strengthened measures on small gatherings, and to share opinions and difficulties from the Christian community.
Prime Minister Chung expressed gratitude for the Christian community's proactive participation and cooperation with the government's quarantine policies, explained the background and purpose of the unavoidable strengthened quarantine measures for churches, and sought understanding from the Christian community.
In response, Christian leaders expressed regret over the specific restrictions imposed on churches despite the Christian community's united efforts to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). They requested a reconsideration of the strengthened quarantine measures for churches, considering that the majority of churches are strictly adhering to government guidelines.
Prime Minister Chung stated, "The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters will conduct a more thorough evaluation of the quarantine management situation and trends of cluster outbreaks, and will strengthen communication with the Christian community regarding church quarantine."
