Kim Bu-gyeom: "We Must Win the Seoul and Busan Mayoral By-Elections"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Former Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Bu-gyeom said at a press conference ahead of the party convention, "We must win the Seoul mayoral and Busan mayoral by-elections next year."
At a press conference held on the morning of the 14th at the Ulsan City Council press room, former lawmaker Kim said, "There will be by-elections for the Seoul mayor and Busan mayor on April 7 next year. It will be a 'mini presidential election' with half of the nation's participation," adding, "The outcome of the by-elections is a turning point for the latter half of the Moon Jae-in administration. We must win."
He emphasized, "If lawmaker Lee Nak-yeon, a presidential candidate, becomes party leader and resigns on March 9, right before this important election, will the preparations for the April 7 election be properly made? We need a party leader who will take responsibility for winning the election."
He continued, "Not only the April by-elections but also the September presidential candidate primaries, the March 2022 presidential election, and the June local elections are all critical elections," adding, "All of these elections are the responsibility of the party leader."
He also stated, "This party convention is not a preliminary battle for the presidential election. It is a regular party convention to elect the party leader," and emphasized, "If I become party leader, I will not run for president. Instead, I will be a strong supporter who ensures that any presidential candidate wins."
He added, "Even when I lost the Daegu mayoral election, I received 40% of the votes," and said, "With 3 million votes in Yeongnam, Kim Bu-gyeom can do it. I will achieve a 5-year re-election and lay the foundation for 100 years of the Democratic Party."
Regarding Ulsan's local issues, former lawmaker Kim said, "I will support the government's integrated water management plan for the Nakdong River basin to be promoted as part of the Korean Green New Deal."
