Gyeonggi Health and Environment Research Institute Establishes Mask Performance Testing System
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has independently established a mask performance inspection system.
The Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment announced on the 13th that it has independently built a health mask performance inspection system, enabling rapid and accurate inspections of masks produced and distributed within the province.
Health masks are classified into three grades?KF80, KF94, and KF99?through performance inspections.
The Institute explained that by being able to conduct mask performance inspections independently, it can reduce the waiting time for inspections requested from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, thereby responding to the rapidly increasing mask production volume.
Park Yong-bae, head of the Food and Drug Research Department at the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment, said, "As the demand and production volume of health masks have surged due to COVID-19, exaggerated and misleading advertisements about mask performance have also spread online. The mask performance inspection system will contribute broadly to preventing the spread of COVID-19 by encouraging the production of high-quality products."

Meanwhile, a good mask should have many pores to make breathing comfortable when worn, and dense pores to effectively protect the respiratory system from external contaminants. The facial inhalation resistance test measures how easy it is to breathe, and the particulate collection efficiency measurement tests how effectively external contaminants are blocked.
