Russia Reports Over 6,000 New COVID-19 Cases for 17 Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] On the 12th (local time), Russia's daily new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) remained in the 6,000 range for the 17th consecutive day. The cumulative confirmed cases reached 720,000, ranking fourth in the world.
The Russian government's COVID-19 Prevention and Control Headquarters announced that "in the past day, 6,615 new infections were reported across 84 regions nationwide, including the capital Moscow, bringing the total confirmed cases to 727,162."
In early May, daily new confirmed cases in Russia once exceeded 11,000, but have gradually declined, dropping to the 6,000 range (6,800 cases) on the 26th of last month. However, there has been no further decrease below the 6,000 range yet.
On this day, Moscow reported 679 new confirmed cases, bringing the cumulative total to 229,357. Nationwide, COVID-19 deaths increased by 130 in one day, totaling 11,335.
