Mokpo National Maritime University Holds Policy Debate to Support Youth in Island Regions

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo National Maritime University (President Park Sung-hyun) held a policy forum on the 10th from 2 PM to 5 PM at the 6th floor auditorium of the 2nd Engineering Building of the National Mokpo Maritime University, jointly with the Mokpo Maritime University Regional Communication Center, Mokpo Forum, and Shinan Future Research Institute, to contemplate together with local residents for regional growth in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and to present proper alternatives.
According to Mokpo National Maritime University, the forum was conducted with former Mokpo University President Ko Seok-gyu as the moderator, and Dr. Cho Sang-pil (Invited Research Fellow at Gwangju Jeonnam Research Institute) gave a keynote presentation titled "What Improves if Shinan and Mokpo Integrate?" covering the necessity of administrative integration, changes in daily life, balanced development between the two regions, and the effects of integration policies.
Panelists included Park Sung-hyun (President of National Mokpo Maritime University), Kim Byung-rok (Professor of Public Administration at National Mokpo University), Choi Young-soo (Professor of Business Administration at Sehan University), Kang Bong-ryong (Professor of History at National Mokpo University), and Kang Sung-gil (former representative of Shinan Forum), who shared various opinions on the "Shinan-Mokpo Administrative Integration" and support for youth in island areas after integration.
In his presentation on "Policies to Support Vulnerable Youth in Island Areas and the Role of Regional Universities" after regional integration, President Park Sung-hyun of Mokpo National Maritime University stated, "If Mokpo City and Shinan County proceed with administrative integration, they can cooperate mutually and become self-sustaining," adding, "We must establish a regional sharing model and strengthen the public nature of higher education, which is the fundamental role of national universities."
He further said, "We will do our best to fulfill the role of members of the regional sharing community by expanding social responsibilities such as educational support for vulnerable youth, preparing active university community contribution programs to expand the insufficient volunteer and educational donation infrastructure in the island areas of Mokpo City and Shinan County, and providing opportunities for character education and motivation for learning among vulnerable youth in island areas following integration."
