[Asia Economy Reporters Kang Nahum and Jeon Jinyoung] Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the National Climate and Environment Council, visited the funeral hall set up at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 10th to pay his respects at the funeral of the late Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul.
After paying his respects to Mayor Park in the afternoon, Chairman Ban told reporters, "He was a civic activist and, as the Mayor of Seoul, made great efforts for the country. His sudden passing is shocking and deeply sorrowful."
He recalled, "Just three days ago, I attended the launch ceremony of the Carbon Neutral Local Government Action Alliance held at COEX together with Mayor Park. I vividly remember his urging all local governments in our country to unite and achieve carbon neutrality."
Chairman Ban said, "When I was the UN Secretary-General, I hosted the 2014 UN Climate Summit, and Mayor Park also attended, signing an agreement with major city mayors around the world to take the lead on climate change."
He added, "I believe it is a tribute to the late Mayor Park that we all work together to accomplish the international tasks he was unable to complete. I take this opportunity to express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and offer heartfelt comfort to the citizens of Seoul."

It is regrettable that such allegations continue to surface against many public officials. Not only public officials but all citizens must create a society where men and women respect each other and uphold human dignity."
