Landslide in Hubei Province, Red Flood Alert in Anhui Province
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Heavy rain has been pouring for over a month in southern China, causing continuous casualties.
According to China's state-run CCTV on the 9th, a landslide occurred around 4 a.m. on the 8th in Huangmei County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province, sweeping away five houses. Nine residents, including three children, were buried in the landslide.
Authorities dispatched rescue teams to the landslide site and conducted rescue operations. On the same day, an 81-year-old elderly person was rescued, while five others were found dead. About 40 nearby households were evacuated to safe areas.
On the same day in Huangmei County, 576 college entrance exam (Gaokao) candidates who were staying in school dormitories were isolated due to flooding, causing delays in the exam, Pengpai reported.
The Anhui Provincial Water Resources Bureau issued a red flood warning at 8:34 p.m. on the 8th.
The Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management activated a national level 4 disaster emergency response in Hubei and Anhui provinces.
