"Strengthening Urban Gateway Centrality"... Development of Deteriorated Areas Around Seodaemun Station
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The deteriorated area around Seodaemun Station will be developed in line with changes in the surrounding areas.
On the 9th, Seoul City announced that the Urban and Architectural Joint Committee held on the 8th approved the revision of the Chung-hyeon District Unit Planning Zone and plan.
The target area is around 2-2, Chungjeongno 2-ga, Seodaemun-gu, near Seodaemun Station. Although this area is a station district and development in surrounding areas such as the redevelopment promotion project, redevelopment project, and demolition of Seodaemun Overpass is active, the formation of a central district is weak. Accordingly, Seoul City decided to induce systematic development in response to changes in urban conditions.
The main decisions include designating pedestrian-priority roads to activate the back street area of the target site, building layout plans to create an orderly pedestrian environment, and plans to induce the location of office facilities and retail facilities to revitalize central functions.
According to the 2025 Urban Environment Maintenance Basic Plan, the urban maintenance-type redevelopment planned area designated within the target site will be developed at an appropriate scale through future maintenance projects by designating four special planning zones.
