Opening of New Joint Childcare Sharing Center in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu
Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's 2020 Joint Childcare Sharing Center Installation Support Project, Solely Selected in Seoul Area... Remodeling to be Completed Within This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) has been the only district in Seoul selected for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family’s ‘2020 Joint Childcare Sharing Center New Installation Support Project’.
The Joint Childcare Sharing Center is a space aimed at supplementing weakened family functions due to nuclear families and creating a community-centered child-rearing friendly environment by linking neighborhood mutual caregiving.
As an open community, it provides opportunities for parents to communicate and share information related to childcare.
Earlier this year, the district applied for the project and underwent on-site inspections and evaluations. Key evaluation criteria included user accessibility, space size, and a suitable surrounding environment for caregiving.
The new sharing center will utilize a building donated and contributed in Suyu-dong. The district plans to remodel it within this year and open it as the second Joint Childcare Sharing Center. It will be composed of services to reduce childcare burdens, such as providing caregiving spaces, toy rentals, and play experiences.
Operations will be conducted within the community of the Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center. Residents of the area or neighbors will share their talents and goods and assist each other with learning, school commutes, and experiences.

Park Kyum-soo, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “I am pleased that the district’s first Joint Childcare Sharing Center, established to reduce parents’ childcare burdens and help balance work and life, has received enthusiastic responses and that we have been selected for new installation support.” He added, “We will continue to expand public childcare infrastructure to make Gangbuk a happy place to raise children.”
