The Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Department Investigates Inmate Claiming 'Perjury Coaching in Han Myeong-sook Case' in Gwangju
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office decided not to convene the advisory panel for the investigation into the alleged collusion between prosecutors and the media, which was scheduled for the 3rd. This partially reflects the opinion of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, who exercised her investigative command authority on the 2nd. Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol plans to hold consecutive meetings with the heads of high prosecutors' offices and chief prosecutors nationwide on the morning and afternoon of the 3rd to discuss whether to accept Minister Choo's exercise of investigative command authority. According to the legal community on the 6th, Han appeared at the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office that morning. It is reported that the investigation of Han is being conducted by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Department (Chief Inspector Han Dong-soo). Considering that Han is incarcerated at Gwangju Prison, the investigation location was set at the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office.
In a request for inspection submitted to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office last month, Han's side alleged that the prosecution in the past forced him to falsely testify that "former Prime Minister Han received 900 million won in political funds from Han Man-ho, former CEO of Hanshin Construction," and requested inspection and investigation.
Han stated that he will not respond to investigations by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and will only cooperate if the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Inspection Department conducts inspection and investigation.
