This summer, temperatures are expected to be 0.5 to 1℃ higher than the average (23.6℃), with intense heatwaves anticipated. Accordingly, the county has designated the heatwave countermeasure period until September 30 and will implement comprehensive measures.
Accordingly, cooling fog (water mist spraying devices) facilities will be operated at eight major tourist sites within the county to help visitors cool down from the heat, and 572 heat-relief shelters installed in village senior centers and community centers will be operated. Facility operations will comply with quarantine guidelines such as social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Currently, 21 shade shelters have been installed at crosswalks in Haenam-eup, where pedestrian traffic is heavy, to prevent heat-related illnesses among pedestrians. Disaster helpers will also conduct home visits or phone check-ins to monitor the well-being of elderly people living alone who are vulnerable to heatwaves.
For construction sites, safety management measures related to heatwaves have been established to continuously manage the sites and prevent heat-related illnesses among workers. The operation of water spraying trucks to lower road surface and air temperatures will also be expanded.
In addition, patrols will be conducted in heatwave-vulnerable areas such as farming work sites, and safety inspections will be carried out for livestock barns and aquaculture facilities.
In particular, real-time monitoring of weather conditions will be conducted, and if a heatwave warning is issued or intense heat is expected to continue, safety alert messages will be promptly sent to residents to enable them to respond appropriately.
