KT Establishes Korean New Deal TF Organization... President Park Yoon-young Leads Frontline
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT, led by Park Yoon-young, President of KT Enterprise Division, has established the 'Korean New Deal Cooperation TF' to actively participate in the government project 'Korean New Deal' policy. This TF includes more than 200 executives and employees from various fields such as business-to-business (B2B), artificial intelligence (AI), 5G, cloud, network, new business, and research and development preparing for the project. The number of participants will gradually increase as the project progresses.
On the 6th, KT announced the establishment plan of this TF. The TF plans to participate in the Korean New Deal project based on capabilities such as network infrastructure including 5G/GiGA Internet, AI/big data technology, and KT's small and medium-sized partner alliance to support rapid execution. KT will first expand network investment by securing nationwide 5G coverage, promoting commercialization of 5G SA and 28GHz, and building in-building repeaters to join the government policy. KT increased its 5G infrastructure investment to commercialize 5G for the first time in the world in 2019, investing 2.1 trillion KRW in subscriber networks, about twice the amount compared to 2018. Despite the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 this year, KT plans to maintain investment levels in communication infrastructure such as 5G and GiGA Internet to revitalize the market.
In terms of fostering the non-face-to-face industry, KT is collaborating with various companies and institutions to apply untact technology. KT has agreed with Seoul Asan Medical Center to develop an untact medical environment using non-face-to-face video solutions, Internet of Things devices, and robots. KT will also develop intelligent service robots through a 50 billion KRW equity investment in Hyundai Robotics with Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. Additionally, KT is accumulating diverse non-face-to-face business experience and capabilities for the post-COVID era, including non-face-to-face weddings, university cheering events using video solutions, and VR education.
To establish a digital safety management system for joint ducts and disaster response-related facilities, KT developed infrastructure management innovation technology based on AI and big data technology. The external communication facilities nationwide currently operated and managed by KT include 230 communication ducts (286 km), 4.69 million communication poles, and 790,000 manholes. Digital technology-based disaster response is essential for the stable operation of communication equipment such as base stations and servers. Accordingly, KT secured efficiency and stability simultaneously in the design, operation, control, and fault recovery areas of communication infrastructure through a next-generation OSP management system based on 5G and AI, including fire detection and flood detection.

In particular, besides preparing for project promotion, the TF plans to continuously pursue projects that can contribute to industrial revitalization and job creation, such as ▲ deriving win-win measures for partner companies and small business owners through smartization ▲ preparing employment stability support measures through future talent and senior ICT expert training programs in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution ▲ developing world-class K-quarantine models and global expansion. Park Yoon-young, President of KT Enterprise Division, said, “Although we are all facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), I believe the Korean New Deal will be an opportunity to turn the crisis into a chance,” adding, “We will maximize KT’s converged ICT capabilities based on 5G and AI to lead not only the success of the Korean New Deal but also innovation in other industries.”
