Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam Begin 'Battle' to Secure National Budget

This marks the start of a crucial tug-of-war to secure the national budget for the next year.
The three cities and provinces announced that they entered the "Yeongnam Region Metropolitan Cities and Provinces Budget Policy Council" at the Democratic Party of Korea leader's conference room in the National Assembly main building on the same day.
Attendees included Democratic Party leader Lee Hae-chan, floor leader Kim Tae-nyeon, Supreme Council member Park Kwang-on, Chairman of the Committee for Good Local Governments Kim Doo-kwan, Policy Committee Chairman Cho Jung-sik, Finance and Economy Committee Chairman Yoon Hu-deok, Budget Committee Chairman Jung Sung-ho, Budget Committee Secretary Park Hong-geun, Yeongnam regional party chairpersons, as well as the governors and planning and coordination officers of Ulsan, Busan, and Gyeongnam.
At the budget policy council, the three Yeongnam region cities and provinces, including Ulsan, plan to strongly request the inclusion of budget for projects aimed at securing the national budget for the next year.
According to Ulsan City, it will propose 20 major national budget projects to revitalize the local economy, including the establishment of a hydrogen electric vehicle safety certification center, construction of a 3D printing convergence technology center, establishment of a cryogenic insulation system demonstration center for eco-friendly ships, and building a practical platform for core components of autonomous personal flying vehicles.
Additionally, seven regional issues will be proposed, such as the rapid promotion of the Korean-style Green New Deal + Nakdong River Integrated Water Management Project, creation of a comprehensive support complex for floating offshore wind farms, and extension of the metropolitan railway line to Songjeong Station (tentative name).

Ulsan Mayor Song Cheol-ho said, "Unlike last year, I am very pleased that the budget policy council is being held before the Ministry of Economy and Finance drafts the government budget proposal this year," adding, "We plan to actively request government and ruling party support to overcome the COVID-19 crisis through national projects related to the Ulsan-type New Deal linked to the Korean New Deal."
