Jeonnam Province to Implement 'Social Distancing Level 2' Starting from the 6th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) announced on the 5th that it will implement 'Social Distancing Level 2' starting from the 6th.
This measure comes in response to the alarming spread of COVID-19 in the Gwangju area recently, as well as the occurrence of two confirmed cases in Jeonnam.
First, all gatherings and events with more than 50 people indoors and more than 100 people outdoors are completely prohibited.
Additionally, wearing masks is mandatory when using public transportation, restaurants, cafes, and similar facilities.
The province had already taken administrative measures from the 3rd to mandate mask-wearing on public transportation and in food service establishments throughout the region.
Visits by outsiders to nursing hospitals and elderly care facilities are also banned, and multi-use facilities operated by public institutions will be completely suspended.
The decision on whether kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools will hold in-person classes will be made in consultation with the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Office of Education.
Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam said, "Following the metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, and Jeonbuk, COVID-19 community infections are spreading rapidly in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas. With continued community infections in multi-use facilities such as temples, churches, hospitals, nursing facilities, and door-to-door sales venues, it is a critical situation where maintaining a 'distancing in daily life' approach alone is no longer sufficient to protect a clean Jeonnam."
