The intense and delicate visuals of director Xavier Dolan color the screen.
Art Nine, a theater dedicated to art films, announced on the 4th that it will screen four films by director Dolan and one documentary highlighting him as part of this month's special program. The lineup includes "Heartbeats (2010)," "Mommy (2014)," "Matthias & Maxime (2019)," "I Killed My Mother (2006)," and "Xavier Dolan: Overcoming the Impossible (2016)."
"Heartbeats," screening on the 6th, marks the starting point of Dolan's sensuous cinematography and captivating music. It colors the friendship of two friends shaken by love with the fresh emotions of youth. "Mommy," introduced on the 13th, is considered one of Dolan's representative works. It deeply explores the relationship between a caring mother and her troublemaking son. The film excels in its free form and beautiful visuals, skillfully pointing to longing and compassion.
On the 20th, "Matthias & Maxime," which opens on the 23rd, will be shown in advance. The film depicts the transformation of two friends into a new relationship through an unexpected kiss, with Dolan himself starring. On the 27th, Dolan's childhood short film "I Killed My Mother" and the documentary "Xavier Dolan: Overcoming the Impossible," which reflects his cinematic world, will be screened consecutively.
