Apology for Distorted Portrayal and Assault Scene of Nurse in 'Brilliant My Life'... "We Will Strive to Prevent Recurrence"

[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] The production team of MBC's daily drama "Brilliant My Life," which distorted the image of nurses and aired scenes of violence against medical staff, has issued an official apology.

On the 4th, the production team stated on their website, "We apologize to the nurses and viewers who felt discomfort due to the incorrect portrayal of the nurse Park Hyun-hee in the drama and the violent scenes against medical personnel."

Earlier, in episode 4 of "Brilliant My Life," aired on the 2nd, there was a scene where Go Sang-ah (played by Jin Ye-sol) slapped the nurse Park Hyun-hee (played by Yoo Ha).

In the scene, Park Hyun-hee was wearing high-heeled shoes and had elaborately decorated nails. A video of the scene was uploaded on the MBC website and portal sites under the title "Jin Ye-sol giving a reality check to a clueless nurse."

Following the broadcast, criticism arose online that the production team depicted nurses with a distorted perspective and treated violence against medical staff lightly.

In response to the criticism, the production team acknowledged the distorted portrayal, saying, "The nurse Park Hyun-hee in the drama wore nail decorations and shoes that are not allowed in actual domestic hospitals and provided convenience to certain patients for personal purposes, which caused discomfort to nurses currently working in the field due to these inaccurate expressions."

They further explained, "The violent scene against medical staff was broadcast as part of emphasizing the chaebol (conglomerate) power abuse by the character Go Sang-ah."

They added, "The production team humbly accepted the discomfort and criticism felt by nurses and viewers, revised the character introduction on the drama's website, and deleted the related video."
