Over 100 New COVID-19 Cases Reported for Two Consecutive Days in Tokyo, Japan
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] NHK reported on the 3rd that more than 100 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were confirmed for two consecutive days in Tokyo, Japan.
According to the report, the number of new confirmed cases announced that day exceeded 120, marking over 100 new cases for two consecutive days following the previous day (107 cases). NHK stated that the number of new cases in Tokyo exceeding 120 is the first time in two months since May 2.
COVID-19 in Japan is rapidly resurging centered around Tokyo. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is urging people to refrain from going out to busy districts where COVID-19 infections have been confirmed repeatedly, except for stores that have taken preventive measures.
However, the Japanese government has stated that it does not plan to declare a state of emergency again. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said regarding the fact that infections in Tokyo exceeded 100 the previous day, "About 70% are young people. While the number of hospitalized patients is on the rise, severe cases are decreasing," and added, "Considering the current infection situation, I do not think it is a situation that requires an immediate declaration of a state of emergency."
