Yongsan-gu, Accepting Nominations for Candidates of the 27th District Residents' Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongchang Hyun) will accept nominations for the 27th Yongsan-gu Citizen Awards from the 6th to August 7th.
This is to find residents (or organizations) who dedicate and volunteer for creating a bright and healthy social atmosphere and the development of the local community.
The nomination categories are ▲Filial Piety Award ▲Volunteer Award ▲Cooperation Award ▲Model Family Award ▲Special Award, totaling five categories.
Nominees must be residents of Yongsan-gu for more than five years and have contributed to community harmony and local development in their respective fields. (There is no residency requirement for the Special Award.)
Nominations can be submitted by submitting a signed petition with at least 30 residents’ signatures to the local community service center of the nominee’s residence. Additionally, heads of district offices (dong), representatives of related organizations, corporations, school principals, and at least two district council members can also nominate candidates. Related forms can be found in the announcement section on the district’s official website.
The district selects recipients who have shown utmost filial piety and led efforts to help family and neighbors (Filial Piety Award), those who have made remarkable contributions to community development and public volunteer activities (Volunteer Award), those who have taken the lead in promoting national movements such as establishing law and order and uniting residents (Cooperation Award), families living together for three or more generations who are harmonious and exemplary to neighbors (Model Family Award), and professionals or organizations who have gained great domestic and international recognition in specific fields or have brought honor to Yongsan-gu through special achievements (Special Award).
One recipient per category will be selected. To this end, on-site investigations of achievements will be conducted in August, followed by a review by the merit evaluation committee in September.
The awards ceremony will be held on the 27th Yongsan-gu Citizens’ Day (October 18). Awardees will receive plaques engraved with their portraits. In accordance with the Public Official Election Act, no separate prizes (monetary awards) will be given.
Mayor Seongchang Hyun of Yongsan-gu said, “We are looking for citizens active in various fields to create a beautiful Yongsan. We hope many people will show interest and nominate those who contribute to the harmony and development of the local community.”

The Yongsan-gu Citizen Awards began in 1994. Last year, six recipients (including organizations) were honored, such as the nonprofit organization “People Finding Happiness for Abandoned Animals,” which holds adoption events for abandoned dogs and cats every week in Itaewon.
