Seongnam's 'e-Sports Exclusive Stadium' Establishment Gains Momentum... Passes Central Investment Review
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] A green light has been turned on for the construction of the 'e-sports dedicated stadium' in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
Seongnam City recently announced on the 3rd that the 'Gyeonggi e-sports dedicated stadium construction' project has passed the Local Finance Central Investment Review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The Central Investment Review is a legal procedure that must be passed before proceeding with a project when the scale of a new investment project by a local government is 20 billion KRW or more.
With the passing of this Central Investment Review, Seongnam City has verified the necessity and feasibility of the project, giving momentum to its progress.
The city plans to start the design competition in the second half of the year and complete the project without delay by the end of 2023.
The Gyeonggi e-sports dedicated stadium is part of the Asia Silicon Valley Seongnam project and a core element of Seongnam City's game industry promotion policy.
A total budget of 33.9 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW of provincial funds secured through last July's Gyeonggi Province public project selection, will be invested.
It holds symbolic significance as the first mid-to-large scale e-sports dedicated stadium with over 300 seats in Gyeonggi Province, located in Pangyo, the representative game industry hub in Korea.
The stadium will include a main stadium with over 300 seats, a secondary stadium with about 50 seats, a PC bang with 100 seats, and other spectator convenience facilities. In addition to popular e-sports matches, various cultural events for citizens will also be held.
It is expected to have effects such as expanding the cultural base for game industry development, improving citizens' quality of life, and revitalizing the local economy (commercial districts) through visitor influx.
