Despite Starting Higher, KOSPI Closed Lower... Maintained the 2100 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The KOSPI index, which started on an upward trend, closed lower on the 1st but managed to hold above the 2100 level.
On the day, the KOSPI closed at 2106.70, down 1.63 points (0.08%) from the previous session.
The KOSPI opened at 2128.81, up 20.48 points (0.97%) from the previous trading day, rising to 2133 before sharply weakening after 2 p.m. and reversing into a decline.
In the securities market, individuals and institutions net bought 12.2 billion KRW and 150.6 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners net sold 166.5 billion KRW.
By sector, steel & metals (2.28%), transportation & warehousing (1.88%), and telecommunications (2.77%) rose, while textiles & apparel (1.5%) and pharmaceuticals (2.34%) declined.
Among the top 10 companies by market capitalization, SK Hynix (0.24%), NAVER (0.75%), and Samsung SDI (1.93%) rose, while Samsung Electronics (0.38%), Samsung Biologics (2.97%), and Celltrion (2.78%) fell.
The KOSDAQ also closed down 10.39 points (1.41%) at 727.58 compared to the previous session.
The KOSDAQ opened at 743.53, up 5.56 points (0.75%) from the previous trading day, maintaining strength before turning downward after 1:30 p.m.
In the KOSDAQ market, individuals net bought 67.9 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions net sold 17.1 billion KRW and 41 billion KRW respectively.
By sector, internet (0.42%) and semiconductors (0.73%) rose, while telecommunications & equipment (2.46%) and manufacturing (1.53%) declined.
