Buan-gun, 2nd Anniversary of the 7th Elected Term... 'Citizen Awards' Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Geon-ju] Buan County, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 1st that it held an awards ceremony for county residents during the July Open Empathy Day event, marking the 2nd anniversary of the 7th local government administration.
At the awards ceremony, plaques and medals were presented to four county residents who won the County Residents Grand Prize in the fields of filial piety, industry, culture, and sports.
In the filial piety category, Choi Hye-nyeo received the County Residents Grand Prize for her utmost devotion, having taken sole responsibility for farming and livelihood in place of her husband, who has been physically disabled due to a traffic accident 30 years ago, and for diligently caring for her mother-in-law with limited mobility.
In the industry category, Choi Woo-sik, currently the head of the Southern Buan Agricultural Cooperative, was selected as the awardee for contributing to increasing farmers' income by establishing and operating a local food direct sales store, promoting home shopping sales of Buan County’s specialty product mulberry, and developing cosmetics.
In the culture category, Ko Jae-heum, a writer engaged in literary activities, was honored with the County Residents Grand Prize for promoting Buan through literary works based on Buan and columns in local media, as well as contributing to the development of Buan literature by donating 3,600 books to the county library.
In the sports category, Kim Sang-woo, currently a dermatologist and urologist, was recognized for his contributions to the development of sports in Buan County by organizing the Buan County Swimming Federation during a time when there were no swimmers, opening a swimming pool, and hosting various swimming competitions.
County Governor Kwon Ik-hyun stated, “Because there are people who have worked hard for regional development behind the scenes, a culture of kindness where county residents take pride in themselves, share with each other, and praise one another will spread.”

Meanwhile, Jo Byung-chul, who was selected as the public interest awardee through various volunteer activities, reportedly declined the County Residents Grand Prize in the public interest category, saying, “I did not volunteer to receive an award or to be recognized by others; I only worked hard for the development of the county.”
