Webinar on COVID-19 Response in 'Science & Technology, ICT, and Education' Sectors Held
8th Webinar of the International Quarantine Cooperation General Task Force on the 1st of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The government will hold the 8th webinar on the 1st of next month to share policies and experiences related to the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) 'K-quarantine' with the world.
This 8th webinar is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT under the theme of 'Science and Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Education,' with participation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Education, Korea Education and Research Information Service, Korea Pasteur Institute, and Seegene, and supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The webinar consists of topics such as COVID-19 response using science and technology and ICT (presented by Lee Chung-won, Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Science and ICT), development of COVID-19 diagnostic kits using ICT (presented by Lee Dae-hoon, Director of Future Technology Research Center at Seegene), current status of COVID-19 therapeutic development (presented by Ryu Wang-sik, Director of Korea Pasteur Institute), and online school opening in response to COVID-19 (presented by Kim Jin-sook, Head of Education Services at Korea Education and Research Information Service).
The Ministry of Science and ICT will present how science and technology and ICT were utilized in testing, tracing, treatment, and social distancing. Seegene will present on how ICT was used in the rapid development process of COVID-19 diagnostic reagents and the selection of genetic targets. Korea Pasteur Institute will share the progress of drug repositioning research aimed at finding substances with therapeutic efficacy against COVID-19 among already approved drugs.
Korea Education and Research Information Service will present how the public online learning management system was expanded and stably operated using ICT during the preparation process for online school openings to respond to COVID-19 and prevent learning loss, and how the experiences gained will be linked to future education.
The K-quarantine webinar is organized by the International Quarantine Cooperation Task Force (TF), with collaboration among 12 government ministries including the Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and 6 related organizations such as the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, International Healthcare Foundation, and Korea International Cooperation Agency, systematically sharing Korea’s quarantine experiences by topic with the international community.

Meanwhile, the TF-hosted webinars have been held weekly since May with various COVID-19 related topics over 7 sessions, with a cumulative attendance of about 2,900 people from 120 countries. The final 9th webinar hosted by the TF is scheduled for the 8th of next month, focusing on election quarantine.
