Daejeon Reports 4 Additional COVID-19 Cases... Including 2 Teenaged Children of Confirmed Patients
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Daejeon, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the region to 117.
According to Daejeon City on the 30th, as of 10 a.m. that day, additional COVID-19 cases #114 to #117 were confirmed.
Among them, cases #114 and #115 are children of case #113 (a woman in her 40s), and the city and quarantine authorities estimate that they were infected through their mother. These siblings were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on the afternoon of the previous day.
In particular, the city confirmed that case #113 is the director of a daycare center located in Daeseong-dong, Dong-gu, and on the previous day, ordered the closure of all 1,203 daycare centers in the Daejeon area. They also conducted comprehensive testing of 19 children and 5 staff members at the daycare center. It was identified that case #113 attended a worship service at Panam Presbyterian Church on the 21st with about 80 congregants, including case #105.
Case #114, the child of case #113, is a third-year middle school student who has not attended school since the 22nd due to remote classes, so there were no contacts at school. Case #115 is a fifth-grade elementary school student who attended school from the 22nd to the 24th but has not attended since the 25th.
The city requested the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education to disinfect the schools attended by the confirmed siblings and switch to remote classes. They also conducted comprehensive testing of students in the same grade as case #115 and placed all students under self-quarantine.
Case #116 is a woman in her 50s living in Sanseong-dong, Jung-gu, who was confirmed to have had contact with case #65 (a caregiver). Case #117 is a woman in her 50s living in Doan-dong, Seo-gu, who had contact with case #110.
Earlier, the city and quarantine authorities explained that these individuals were classified as contacts of confirmed cases, placed under self-quarantine, and after diagnostic testing, were finally confirmed positive for COVID-19. Both confirmed cases currently show no symptoms.

The city and quarantine authorities are conducting emergency disinfection of facilities visited by the confirmed cases and have placed contacts under self-quarantine.
