MFDS and EMA Sign Confidentiality Agreement on COVID-19 Medicines
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 30th that it has signed a temporary confidentiality agreement with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for mutual information exchange regarding diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic medicines related to COVID-19 and associated infectious diseases.
The Ministry explained that this agreement is significant in establishing a close information exchange system for confidential external information such as clinical trial data, review materials, and safety issues of medicines currently used or under development for COVID-19 treatment.
Meanwhile, South Korea and the European Union (EU) plan to discuss cooperation measures in health and quarantine related to COVID-19, as well as international solidarity for vaccine and therapeutic development, through a summit held via video conference on the same day.

Minister Eui-Kyung Lee stated, “In the global COVID-19 pandemic crisis, we will support the rapid development of treatments and vaccines through mutual cooperation, and use this agreement as an opportunity to conclude a formal confidentiality agreement in the future to strengthen our cooperative relationship.”
