Dobong-gu Holds 2020 Online Joint Workshop for Youth Participation Organizations
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu, a child-friendly city (Mayor Dongjin Lee), held the 2020 Dobong-gu Youth Participation Organization Joint Workshop on the 27th.
The workshop was conducted online in a non-face-to-face manner with only a minimal number of people attending on-site to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Dobong-gu Youth Participation Organization, formed to allow children and youth to express their opinions on policies and issues related to themselves and to participate in decision-making processes, includes the ‘Dobong-gu Children and Youth Council,’ the ‘Youth Participatory Budget Committee,’ and the ‘Youth Participation Committee.’
On this day, about 90 youths belonging to each organization participated.
The workshop proceeded in the order of ▲Introduction of youth participation organizations ▲Presentation of appointment certificates to representative youths and reading of the oath ▲Online talk with the mayor ▲Education on youth participation and budget school.
Starting in July, youth committee members will actively engage in ▲Proposing child-related policies and agenda items by standing committees and holding regular meetings ▲Reviewing and selecting youth participatory budget public projects ▲Providing opinions and policy proposals on local youth policies.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “I hope children and youth gain pride as the main agents of a child-friendly city who participate in the policy decision-making process through this workshop,” and added, “Although youth participation activities have shifted to an online non-face-to-face format due to the spread of COVID-19, we will continue to do our best to communicate with children and create a safer child-friendly city Dobong-gu where children can participate more securely.”
