Russian Foreign Ministry Hit by Mass Infections... 40 Confirmed Cases, 1 Death
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] More than 40 employees of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). One death has also been reported.
Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister, stated this on the 29th (local time) in an interview with the state-run TV channel 'RT'.
Minister Lavrov said that infections were found not only at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in the capital Moscow but also at major regional offices where foreign consulates are located.
Most of the confirmed cases reportedly showed mild symptoms, but one death occurred among them. The deceased was a 62-year-old employee whose wife works as a medical emergency responder.
Minister Lavrov explained, "Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees are strictly following the recommendations of the quarantine authorities," and "since the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak, about half of the staff have started working remotely."

Meanwhile, as of today, Russia's cumulative number of COVID-19 confirmed cases stands at 641,156. More than 6,000 new cases continue to be reported daily.
