'Illegal Hiring of Children's English Teachers' - Sangho An, CEO of Simmons Bed, Fined
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] Simonseu Bed CEO An Jeong-ho was fined for illegally employing a foreigner to work as his child's English teacher and housekeeper.
On the 29th, according to the legal community, Judge Lee Ki-hong of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 24 sentenced CEO An to a fine of 7 million won on charges of violating the Immigration Control Act.
The court criticized, "The defendant deliberately sought out a foreigner and used fraudulent methods such as disguising Mr. A as a regular employee hired for market analysis in the Philippines by using the company's system."
It added, "Considering the defendant's social status and responsibilities before and after the crime, leniency is not possible."
The court explained that considering these points, it imposed a higher fine than the prosecution's demand of 5 million won.
CEO An is accused of illegally employing a Filipino woman, Ms. A, as his child's English teacher and housekeeper at his Hannam-dong residence from May 2015 to April the following year.
