Launch of Seodaemun-gu Food Committee
Deliberation and Consultation on Policies for Food Production, Distribution, Consumption, and Circulation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) announced on the 29th that the district has launched the 'Food Committee,' the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts, to continuously promote the 'Food Plan.'
The 'Food Plan' refers to a comprehensive plan encompassing food production, distribution, consumption, and circulation.
Since establishing the Food Strategy Team in July 2018, the district conducted related research projects and operated a public-private TFT, culminating in the establishment of the 'Seodaemun-gu Food Plan' in November last year.
In February this year, the 'Seodaemun-gu Food Basic Ordinance,' which provides the basis for establishing the 'Seodaemun-gu Food Committee,' was enacted following a proposal by district council members. To this end, a TFT for ordinance enactment involving residents, district council members, and public officials was also operated.
The district selected 32 committee members through open recruitment and institutional recommendations to allow various experts and residents interested in food to participate.
Adding 8 ex officio members, including the mayor, district council members, and related public officials, the 'Seodaemun-gu Food Committee' was formed with a total of 40 members.
On the 25th of this month, the committee held its first meeting following the appointment ceremony at the district office's planning situation room and elected co-chairpersons.
It was also decided to organize three subcommittees within the committee: ▲ Food Security, Safety, and Community Subcommittee ▲ Food Ecology and Urban-Rural Cooperation Subcommittee ▲ Food Education, Culture, and Public Relations Subcommittee.
The appointed members are divided into these three subcommittees to deliberate and advise on Seodaemun-gu's food policies.
